Reporting & Moderation Policy
Last updated: July 2026
1. Purpose
This policy explains how scam reports and reviews are handled on Verifield: how they are submitted, reviewed, published, and appealed. It exists to protect both the people who report fraud and the businesses that are reported, and to keep the Platform fair and accurate.
2. Presumption of good faith, not guilt
A report is an allegation, not a verdict. The appearance of a report or a low Trust Score does not mean a person or business has been found guilty of any crime. We publish reports to inform, not to convict. We use language such as "reported" and "under investigation" deliberately.
3. How reports are reviewed
Every scam report is private when submitted and is reviewed by a moderator before anything is published. During review we may:
- Assess the evidence provided (screenshots, receipts, chat exports).
- Check the report against official records and existing data.
- Mark the report as verified, dismissed, or under investigation.
Only reports we verify are published publicly and factored into a Trust Score.
4. Evidence standard
Reports supported by clear, relevant evidence carry more weight. Reports without evidence may remain unpublished. We do not publish a report solely because it was submitted.
5. Reviews
Reviews reflect the genuine experience of their authors. We remove reviews that are fake, incentivised, off-topic, defamatory, or that violate our Terms. We use technical measures to detect and reduce review manipulation.
6. Right of reply
Any business with a profile may respond publicly to reviews and reports about it. We encourage businesses to claim their profile so they can respond and provide context.
7. Appeals
If you believe a report, review, or score about you or your business is inaccurate or unfair, you may submit an appeal. In an appeal you should:
- Identify the specific report, review, or profile.
- Explain why it is inaccurate, and provide supporting evidence.
We aim to review appeals within a reasonable time. Outcomes may include leaving the content in place, adding context, editing, or removing it. We will not remove accurate, evidence-backed reports simply because they are unfavourable.
8. Takedown of unlawful content
We remove content that is unlawful, that a court has found to be defamatory, or that we are legally required to remove. To request removal on legal grounds, contact us with the specific URL and the legal basis for your request.
9. Consequences of false reporting
Knowingly submitting false, malicious, or defamatory reports is a serious breach of our Terms. It may result in removal of the content, suspension of your account, and referral to authorities where appropriate.
10. Corrections
Trust Scores recalculate automatically as data changes. When a report is dismissed on appeal or new information is verified, scores update accordingly.
